Cumbria Way path

Great walks from the doorstep - no need for a car!

Whilst the Lake District provides a plethora of fantastic walks for all ages and abilities, there are many delightful shorter walks all around Sunny Bank, which you can enjoy with or without a furry friend.

Bordered by Common land and the lake, you don't have to venture far from Sunny Bank to be rewarded with amazing scenery and stunning views of surrounding fells, distant mountains, Grizedale forest, and of course picturesque Coniston Water.

For a flat walk  you can follow the Cumbria Way along the lake shore all the way to Coniston (1½ hours). Or go as far as Torver jetty (40-50 mins) and catch the Coniston Launch. Much of the path hugs the shoreline and takes you through pretty woodland amongst ancient oak and beech trees.

Torver Back Common has a beauty of its own in all seasons. After a short climb you'll soon be able to see up and down the length of Coniston Water and admire waterlilies in pretty tarns against the majestic backdrop of Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag. Well off the beaten track, your solitude is only likely to be disturbed by the resident Herdwick sheep or a local farmer. For slightly different but equally magnificent views, take one of the paths the other side of the road up onto Torver Low Common, with its pretty streams and distinctive juniper bushes.
